Visiting Scholar

The Commission sponsors, in partnership with CAPES, the visit of U.S. Scholars to graduate courses in Brazilian institutions of higher education. The grant length is from two to four months. Scholars should apply in the U.S. through the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) until August 1 st ., to teach in Brazil in the second semester of the following year. Graduate programs in Brazil may contact the U.S. scholar of interest directly and ask him/her to apply at CIES. It is advisable that the candidate for the Fulbright Scholar Program present a letter of invitation along with the CIES application form. There are awards for all disciplines and for specific fields as follows:

U.S. STUDIES AT FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF PERNAMBUCO (NEA)
The Center for American Studies of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). American scholars are invited to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and organize seminars on Studies of the U.S. and Hemispheric Economic Relations. There are also opportunities for independent or collaborative research. Brazilianists are always welcome to apply and candidates are encouraged to propose the course syllabus.

PUC-RIO DISTINGUISHED CHAIR IN AMERICAN STUDIES
The Fulbright PUC/Rio Distinguished Chair in American Studies. This program gives an award to a Distinguished American Scholar to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and organize seminars on U.S. History and/or Studies of the U.S.  The objective of the first Fulbright Chair in Brazil and in Latin America is to enhance and promote the dissemination of American Studies, involving the U.S. and its relationship with the Americas in general, and specifically with Brazil. Brazilianists are also welcome to apply and candidates are encouraged to propose the course. Applicants are also encouraged to contact the university directly to discuss possible collaborative research projects. Awards are for the period August/December 2005.
